Beryl and Gregory’s (not their real names) story is one such example. They put on a show of happiness and contentment, but the truth is that their marriage is strained and difficult.

Beryl and Gregory were a couple who seemed to have a perfect marriage, at least to outsiders. However, Beryl had a secret that she struggled to keep hidden. In reality, behind closed doors, Gregory’s selfishness and anger issues had cast a dark shadow over their relationship. This had left Beryl yearning for the intimacy she so desperately desired. Gregory’s threatening and abusive behavior had become routine, and Beryl felt trapped in a loveless marriage. She feared how society would judge her if she chose to admit her dilemma or leave.
